803 Researcher Angus P. Robinson (1925-2000) was the first person to document that our James b.1771 was the son of James b.1736. However, Angus also claimed that our James married a Sarah Bass on 22 Jun 1781, when he would have been ten years old. We have seen no evidence for this unlikely event, but in fact, Sarah Bass was bonded in marriage on that date, but to a James Gates. But the 1798 marriage of our James Robertson to Nancy Sims is actually of record, and is cited in The Virginia Genealogist, V.46 #2 p.148.

804 Researcher Velpo Robertson believes James and Anna never divorced but simply went their separate ways. But the recent discovery of the actual marriage of James Robertson and Nancy Sims suggests that James probably never actually married Anna Mabe, Sarah Burton nor Ruth Young. Family: James ROBERTSON Jr. / Anna MABE (F917)

808 Rev. George Robertson was an Anglican clergyman, educated at Andrews College. He was licensed by the Bishop of London on 20 Feb 1792 and came to the colonies in 1793, at which time he took charge of the Bristol Parish. But because the population of the parish was primarily English and he was from Scotland, the Parish Vestry did not recognize him as the lawful Rector until 1735, four years before his death.

810 Reverend Gershom Hobart graduated from Harvard in 1667. He resided in Plymouth, Groton, and Hingham Massachusetts. He was ordained in Groton, where he was the pastor of the Congregational Church there. The minister and the congregation did not always live together harmoniously. There was much dissension about his salary and where the new meeting house would be built to replace the one burned by the Indians in the 1676 massacre. He was dismissed in Dec 1685, but continued to preach in Groton occasionally for almost 20 more years. Gershom lost two children in the second massacre of Groton on 27 Jul 1694. One was killed, and the other, nine year old Gershom, was held captive for nearly a year before being ransomed from his captors.  HOBART, Reverend Gershom Sr. (I85810)

811 Richard D. Zentmire, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2011. He was born March 8, 1919 to D. Harold and Naomi Zentmire in Kirksville, MO. He grew up in Marengo, IA, where he became an Eagle Scout. He studied engineering at Iowa State in Ames, completed their ROTC program, and graduated in 1940. Employment with General Electric brought him east to Schenectady. He became active in Union Presbyterian Church, where he met and married Frances Ruder on May 22, 1942. By then, war had come. Dick was commissioned 2nd lieutenant in the U.S. Army, and served from 1942 to 1945 in the European Theater. He mustered out with the rank of major. Returning to his job at GE, Dick worked tirelessly until his retirement in 1983. Dick was active in Boy Scout Troop 11, and was an Elder and a Deacon at his church for many years. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Frances, and his youngest son, Robert.  ZENTMIRE, Richard D (I1457)

Catharine Garber had son William Garber when she married Robert.

Family Lore holds that Robert's oldest son John wrote on Robert's death certificate, "Deceased was orphaned at the age of four years" which coincides with Sarah's death and James taking a new partner, Ruth Young, in 1837. We obtained a copy of the death certificate however, and no such language is apparent.

816 Robert Robison, son of Matilda Amelia and Howard Sheridan Robison, was born April 24, 1898, on the family farm north of Scandia and died November 2, 1982, at the Belleview Manor, Belleville, Kansas at the age of 84 years, 6 months and 9 days. Bob received his education at Pleasant Valley, District 24. As a young man he was engaged in farming with his father and later worked for himself. During the early Forties he worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad. He later joined a road construction crew and worked for Reece Construction Company from 1947 until his retirement in 1961. After retirement, he made his home in Scandia. Bob was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 221 and received his 35-year membership pin in April 1975. He was preceded in death by his parents; two half-sisters- Amy Garber and Katie Garber Isaacson; his twin brother Edward; his brother Sherman; and his sister Sadie. Survivors include three sisters ? Adah and Edna of the home and Josie in the Belle-View Manor, Belleville; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Grace Robison, Manhattan; and Mrs. Myrtle Robison, Belleville and several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. - THE SCANDIA JOURNAL Thursday, November 11, 1982 ROBISON, Robert Royter (I86032)

818 Robert was the brother of our great-grandfather, John Calvin Strahorn. He was born east of Bellefonte in Haines Twp. Centre Co., Pennsylvania. He wrote later how as a boy, he was impressed by Abraham Lincoln at the Lincoln-Douglas debates in 1858. He was typesetter and then a newspaper correspondent for the Denver News and New York Times during the Sioux campaigns of 1876-77, and fought alongside General Crook as an embedded reporter while covering the Battle of Rosebud. He was hired by Jay Gould as the first head of the Publicity Department of the Union Pacific Railroad from 1877-1783, and wrote a number of books about the resources and attractions of the western states, which helped generate waves of migration into those territories, greatly benefiting the U.P. He was instrumental in building the Oregon Short Line Railroad from Granger, Wyoming to Huntington, Oregon and through his Idaho & Oregon Land Improvement Co. founded or substantially developed the towns of Shoshone, Hailey, Mountain Home, Caldwell, Ontario, Payette, and Weiser along the route of the O.S.L. He was a founder and trustee of the College of Idaho in Caldwell. He went broke in the panic of 1893, then spent six years trading municipal bonds in Boston. He went on to build the North Coast Railroad under a secret financial arrangement with E.H. Harriman, and built Union Station in Spokane (which was demolished in 1974 for the Spokane World's Fair) and almost 750 miles of track in Washington State. This clandestine arrangement earned Robert the moniker "The Sphinx" because he would never publicly acknowledge his funding source. The North Coast Railroad was consolidated into the Oregon Washington Railroad & Navigation Co. with Robert as Vice President and General Manager. He went on to develop several railroad expansion projects into eastern Oregon through his Oregon, California & Eastern Railroad. In the period leading up the 1929 stock market crash, Robert acquired a number of commercial properties in downtown San Francisco, but was forced to deed them back to his lenders to avoid to foreclosure and bankruptcy in the years that followed. He died in 1944 in San Francisco (not in Spokane as is claimed elsewhere) and his remains are interred in a granite and marble mausoleum in Spokane along with both of his wives. There were no children from either marriage. Upon his death in San Francisco in 1944, Robert's remains were taken by his friend Thurlow Bryant (who was mentioned on page 572 of Ninety Years of Boyhood, Strahorn's autobiography) to Spokane, and Robert's personal effects, including his steamer trunk, his personalized binoculars, numerous photos and papers, and the publishing rights to his autobiography, were taken by Thurlow to his home in Caldwell, Idaho. Thurlow's wife Nellie gave these items to us in 1995 because we were the only relatives who had ever inquired after him. Thurlow died in Caldwell in 1992, and Nellie in 2001. - Gary Zentmyer STRAHORN, Robert Edmund (I85878)

819 Robert's son David possessed a series of hand-written genealogical charts relating to the descendants of Christopher Zentmeyer, copies of which were obtained by Michael Fichtel in the 1970s. David told Michael that the charts had been compiled by his father Robert Anderson Zentmyer around 1904 after a lengthy letter-writing campaign to persons having the Zentmyer surname and its variants. We obtained partial copies of these from Michael in 2007, and they have proven to be accurate and informative. In 2022 I was able to obtain full copies from Vicki Zentmyer Bergstrom, David's daughter. -Ed. ZENTMYER, Robert Anderson (I2893)

An avid bridge player, she enjoyed knitting and gourmet cooking. A valedictorian of Tyrone High School, Class of 1921, she attended Ohio Wesleyan College. Born in Tyrone, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Edna Taylor Zentmyer. Her husband, W. Arthur Welch, died in 1992. 824 Rusty Brutsche and two friends formed the famous pro audio rental company Showco with the simple mission to produce good sounding concerts. The goal required the building and maintenance of cutting edge and often innovative gear such as boards, pre-amps and lights. Their Varilight system became a very successful product as it revolutionized concert lighting with motors that moved the lights and changed colors instantaneously. In addition to the gear, Rusty and his staff went on the road to mix front of house for bands all across the country. For example, Rusty mixed Led Zeppelin for years using the board and equipment he and his crew, such as Jim Bornhorst, designed and developed. BRUTSCHÉ, Harry Russell III (I35)

825 Ruth 'Chita' O'Connor wrote in June 1976 in the Orange County Genealogical Society Quarterly that her father was "Charles Elmore Cosby (changed to Charles E. De Cillo ca. 1901)," and her California Death Certificate from 1996 reads, "Mother's Maiden Name: Decillo, Father's Surname: Cosby."

826 Ruth, writing in 1983, told the story of Susannah North, an ancestor she traces through Keziah Chase, wife of Amos Hobart b.1774. According to Ruth, Susannah was found guilty of being a witch in Salem Village on 2 May 1692, and hanged on 19 July 1692 on Gallows Hill. She was buried on said Hill, because witches could not be buried in the church cemetery.

829 Samuel apparently spent his life in the United States in Philadelphia, moving there after 1824. In various Philadelphia city directories, he was listed as a stone cutter from 1829 to 1833. Between 1835 and 1847, Samuel was listed variously as a blacksmith, innkeeper, gunsmith, and locksmith, although there were also other persons named Samuel Lehman in those years. In the 1850 US Census he listed his occupation as 'None.' Then from 1854 to 1863 he was listed as a bricklayer, with the exception of 1862 when he was listed as a moulder, a person who carved stone. (Samuel's son George had been listed as a moulder in the 1850 Census) In 1867, the year of his death, Samuel was listed as a water color manufacturer, certainly working for his son-in-law Joseph Brutsche because his listed address, 250 S. 10th, was also Joseph's address, and Joseph was in fact a water color manufacturer.
